Official Limestone County criminal records must come from the government office that keeps them. In Athens, sheriff and detention records begin with the Limestone County Sheriff's Office, while Circuit and District Court files belong to the Limestone County Circuit Clerk. State criminal history review goes through the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. The contact routes below distinguish those records so requests can be directed to the correct custodian.

This Is Not a Government Office. Limestone County Criminal History is a private reference site. It cannot retrieve, certify, correct, or remove records, perform an official background check, or accept an expungement filing.

Need an Official Record?

Match the record to the office that created or maintains it:

  • Circuit and District Court files: Limestone County Circuit Clerk, first floor of the Limestone County Courthouse, 200 West Washington Street, Athens, AL 35611; 256-233-6406; Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., closed noon to 1:00 p.m.
  • Arrest, booking, jail, incident, dispatch, or sheriff warrant material: Limestone County Sheriff's Office, 101 West Elm Street, Athens, AL 35611; 256-232-0111; info@limestonesheriff.com; Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Alabama criminal history self-review: Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Criminal Records and Identification Unit; the public process requires fingerprints, photo identification, and the current application and fee
  • Police reports: contact the police department or other agency that made the report, even if Limestone County later handled the jail booking
  • Sex offender registry questions: begin with local law enforcement for a Limestone County address or compliance concern; ALEA's Registry Unit lists 334-676-7898 and sexoffenderunit@alea.gov
  • Expungement: use the current Alabama Title 15, Chapter 27 process and the court specified by law; the Circuit Clerk can provide court records but cannot decide eligibility

The Sheriff's Office has not published a separately named records counter, general copy fee, or guaranteed turnaround. Call first and ask staff to route a narrow request to the correct custodian. For court records, preserve the clerk's published noon-to-1:00 p.m. closure when planning a visit.
